Here are some tips on how to freeze food.
- Always cool food off completely before freezing.
- Double wrap baked goods before freezing. Wrap items airtight in plastic wrap, and then wrap them a second time in aluminum foil. To thaw: thaw at room temperature while still double-wrapped.
- Mark foods you’ve wrapped for freezing, to indicate what it is, and the date it was frozen.
- While egg yolks don’t freeze well, the whites do. If you make something with only yolks, place the egg whites in a one-cup plastic storage containers, so they’re already measured out for an angel food cake! All you need do is thaw them to proceed with your recipe.
- Freeze homemade baby food in ice cube trays, to get individual portions for baby.
- You can also freeze stock in ice cube trays to cool off a hot bowl of soup quickly.
- Got leftover wine you hate to waste? Freeze it in containers for later cooking, such as for braising meat or chicken or for making stews.
