Sardines: Because Maimonides Said So

Dietary supplements can be expensive. So if you’re looking for a natural source of Omega3 fatty acid, an excellent source is sardines. Moreover, no less an authority than Jewish physician par excellence, Maimonides, recommended people eat small saltwater fish, which are—you guessed it—sardines.

Eat three cans’ worth of the li’l guys and you’ve gotten your weekly requirement of Omega3. The only problem is the smell and taste, which to many are kind of um, rank. Here are some tips I’ve received from sardine aficionados on making the fish palatable:

Buy only the sardines in olive oil. They seem to taste better. Mash them with a fork so they don’t look so identifiably fishy. Add LOTS of lemon juice. Throw in some capers for good measure.
